Prof. Renfang Shen is the director the Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISSCAS), China. He received his Ph.D. in soil science from ISSCAS, China in 1993. He began working at ISSCAS as an assistant professor in 1993 and was promoted to associate professor in 1995. In 2002, he became a full professor at present institute. Dr. Shen has been working on the sustainable utilization of acid soils, including the mechanisms of Al tolerance in plants and microbes, the comprehensive study on effects of nutrient elements N, P on Al toxicity to plants and comprehensive utilization of acidic soil. So far his group has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Shen has been serving as an international steering committee member of the PSILPH since 2009, and the Editor-in-chief of the international journal Pedosphere, the chair of the Soil Use and Management Division of the International Union of Soil Sciences, the chair of the Steering Committee of the Asian Soil Partnership. He has selected as the fellow of Soil Science Society of China (2021). He has received many awards, the most significant being awarded China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists in 2010 and Science and Technology Award of Soil Science Society of China in 2015, Standardization Project Award of Nanjing, China (2019), Outstanding Achievement Award of Soil Science Society of China (2020).
